SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Nick Brink had everything working on Thursday, fanning eight San Francisco hitters over seven innings of work to help propel the Portland Pilots over the Dons 9-2.
In addition to his eight strikeouts, Brink (5-0) tossed seven innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on five hits and walking two for Portland (28-20, 16-9). Jack Folkins finished it off for the Pilots, throwing two shutout innings while allowing two hits, with one walk and one strikeout.
Zach Toglia led the way offensively for the Pilots, going 2-for-5 in the ballgame with a double, a home run and two RBI. Jake Tsukada provided a standout day at the plate as well, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Nich Klemp also chipped in, going 2-for-4 for Portland with a double, a walk and an RBI.
How it Happened
The Pilots got on the board immediately, starting their scoring in the top of the first inning. Portland scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Ben Patacsil and an RBI double from Klemp.
San Francisco scored in the second before the Pilots expanded their lead in the third. Portland picked up two runs, including one on a solo round-tripper off the bat of Toglia and another off a Tsukada RBI single, which brought the Pilots lead to 5-1.
San Francisco narrowed Portland's lead to 5-2 before the Pilots stretched the advantage to 8-2 in the fifth inning. The Pilots recorded three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-run single off the bat of Tsukada and the other being an RBI double from Christian Cooney.
Portland held the Dons without a run before building on their lead in the eighth inning. The Pilots scored a run on Toglia's two-out RBI double, bringing the score to 9-2 in favor of Portland. The score remained 9-2 for the rest of the game, as the Pilots coasted to the win.

» Tsukada compiled three hits in the game for Portland. It's just the second time this season he's done so.
» Brink struck out eight Dons hitters.
» The Pilots power output was led by Toglia, who picked up two extra base hits in the ballgame including his 10th home run.
» Toglia and Scavotto are the first teammates to have 10 home runs each in a season since 1992.
» Klemp's double means he is one away from setting the school record for doubles in a season.
» With nine RBI's today, the Pilots officially set the program record for RBI's in a season with 330.

» The Pilots need just one more win to secure the No. 2 seed in the WCC Tournament, earning a bye.
» This is just the fourth time the Pilots have posted at least 16 WCC wins in a season.
