LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- The Portland Pilots fell in the championship of the WCC Tournament 6-0 to the Santa Clara Broncos, ending their season. Jake Holcroft, Nich Klemp and Peter Allegro all made the WCC All-Tournament Team.
Ryan Rembisz (1-1) got the ball to start for Portland (31-23) and took the loss. The southpaw went 2.2 innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on two hits, allowing no walks and striking out two. Brock Gillis was a bright spot for the Pilots, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing three hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.
Jake Holcroft led the way offensively for the Pilots, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame. Evan Scavotto put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-4.
How it Happened
Portland managed one chance with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position. The Pilots last got a runner on third in the ninth, when Holcroft made it 90 feet away from scoring with one out.
Game Notes
» Portland pitchers limited Santa Clara to just 2-for-12 (.167) with runners in scoring position.
» Portland pitchers faced 37 Santa Clara hitters in the game, allowing eight ground balls and eight fly balls while striking out six.
» Holcroft led the Pilots at the plate, going 2-for-4.
» This is the first time Allegro and Klemp have made the WCC All-Tournament Team. It is the second time for Holcroft, making him the first Pilot to make it twice in their career.
» Holcroft and Klemp both finish the season at 83 hits a piece, a program record.
» Klemp batted .471 for the tournament with the Pilots' lone home run, six RBI's and a double.
» Holcroft batted .400 for the tournament with eight hits total and three RBI's.
» Allegro made one appearance, a start against Saint Mary's, and went an impressive eight innings with 10 strikeouts and just four runs allowed.
