HILLSBORO, Ore. -- Senior Briley Knight went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI's in the ninth inning, but the Portland Pilots still came up short on Tuesday against No. 15 Oregon State, falling 4-2.
Joey Gartrell (4-4) came out of the bullpen for Portland (24-19) and took the loss. Peter Allegro was a bright spot for the Pilots, starting the ballgame and throwing five scoreless innings, allowing one hit, with two walks and three strikeouts.
Knight led the way offensively for the Pilots, going 1-for-4 in the ballgame with a double and two RBI's. Zach Toglia put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.
How it Happened
The Pilots trailed 4-0 heading into the final inning. All runs came in the final four innings for Oregon State, with a solo homer from Travis Bazzana in the sixth, sac flies in the seventh and ninth innings and a ninth-inning RBI single from Garrett Forrester.
Portland didn't go down easy. They scored two runs on a double off the bat of Knight. But it was too little too late as the Pilots fell 4-2.
