KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Portland Pilots midfielder Sebastian Nava was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Players to Watch list for midfielders on Friday.
The list consists of 25 midfielders across Division I, and is one of four lists the organization will release heading into the season. The lists are released by the Division I All-America Committees and includes players who both made All-American teams last season or All-Region first or second team.
Nava returns after making the All-West Region Second Team last year. Nava had 18 points last season with four goals and a team-high 10 assists. He was the first Pilot to earn at least 10 assists in a season since Rey Ortiz in 2017. His assist total ranked ninth in the nation. Nava also earned All-WCC Honorable Mention last year.
The Pilots head into this year off the heels of a remarkable 2022 season. They went 15-3-3 to finish with their best record and winning percentage (.786) since 1995. They went undefeated at home at 11-0-2 and held the longest home winning streak in the nation last year. They advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1995 as well.
Portland hosts the Seattle U Redhawks tonight at 7 p.m. for their first exhibition of the season. Following that, they'll play a road exhibition against the Washington Huskies and a final home exhibition match against the Southern Oregon Raiders. Their first regular season match will be here at Merlo Field on Friday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for more information.
