PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Pilots Men's Soccer continues to make their mark in college soccer this year and are now ranked third in the nation in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll. It is the highest the Pilots have been ranked since the 1992 season.
The ranking comes after what has been a stellar start to the 2023 season for Portland. They are 3-0 to start the fall, their best record through three games since the 1997 season. They are one of the most potent offensive teams in the nation, ranking first nationally in goals (13), goals per game (4.33), assists (16), assists per game (5.33) and total points (42). They are also second nationally in goal differential (11).
Several players rank towards the top nationally in various categories. Kevin Bonilla has electrified on the field as a passer, leading the nation in assists with five through just three games. He is also averaging 1.67 assists per game, which is first nationally. On top of that, Jacob Babalai currently ranks seventh and 13
th nationally in points (8) and goals (3) respectively, with Buba Fofanah also ranking 13
th nationally in goals with three himself. Babalai is fourth nationally in points per game (2.67) as well. Nick Fernandez and Sebastian Nava are both tied for sixth in assists with three apiece.
The Pilots embark on a crucial road trip to Morgantown this weekend where they'll take on the No. 16 West Virginia Mountaineers. The two teams play on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. PST. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats and video options.
