PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland men's basketball team knocked down 8-of-19 attempts from beyond the arc, but fell 86-65 to the Gonzaga Bulldogs at home Thursday.
The Pilots (9-20, 3-11) had three players score in double figures, led by Tyler Robertson, who had 18 points and eight rebounds. Tyler Harris tacked on 12 points and Vasilije Vucinic helped out with 10 points from the bench.
The Portland offense was very productive from downtown, knocking down eight threes. Robertson was the most prolific shooter for the Pilots, draining five treys in the contest.
How It Happened
Gonzaga jumped out to an early 16-5 lead after a Ben Gregg three-pointer and Graham Ike layup. The margin grew to as much as 16 before a Tyler Harris putback dunk brought it back down to single digits. The Bulldogs rode 13 first half points from Gregg to take a 43-30 lead into intermission.
Gonzaga kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 69-50 advantage before Portland went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Vucinic's layup, to shrink the deficit to 69-55 with 7:53 to go in the contest.
Gonzaga responded and outscored the Pilots the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 86-65. Portland shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting five shots from deep to score 15 of its 35 points.
