LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Tyler Robertson and Bol Dengdit combined to score 34 total points, but the Pilots fell to the San Francisco Dons 72-51 in a quarterfinal game of the Credit Union 1 WCC Basketball Championship at Orleans Arena Saturday.
Robertson, playing his final collegiate game, led the Pilots (12-21) with 25 points. Vukasin Masic added nine points, 11 rebounds and four assists and Dengdit chipped in as well with nine points and six rebounds.
Portland played on back-to-back days with a limited rotation of seven players and could not keep up with the depth of the Dons.
San Francisco shot 53 percent overall and made 11-of-24 three-pointers, while the Pilots were held to just 33 percent overall.
How It Happened
The Dons started out on fire by making their first five field goal attempts and racing out to a 14-2 lead. The margin grew to 42-19 heading into halftime as the Pilots struggled to get anything going on offense.
San Francisco kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 50-22 advantage before Portland went on an 8-0 run, finished off by Dengdit's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 50-30 with 16:43 to go in the contest. San Francisco responded and outscored the Pilots the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 72-51. Portland shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting seven shots from deep to score 21 of its 32 points.
