EUGENE, Ore. -- Jake Holcroft became the all-time hit leader for Portland Pilots Baseball in a dominant 15-5 win for Portland over the Oregon Ducks. Holcroft now sits with 259 career hits.
Tanner Douglas (1-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Portland (9-5), his first as a Pilot. The southpaw went five shutout innings while giving up just two hits, allowing two walks and striking out four. Morgan Codron had the start for Portland.
Zach Toglia's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 3-for-6 day, and included a double, a home run and two RBI's. Holcroft made his contribution with a double, a home run and three RBI's, part of a 2-for-6 performance at the plate. Brady Bean also helped out for the Pilots, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate while adding a home run, two walks and three RBI's.
How it Happened
The Pilots scored in six different innings on the way to the win, getting started right away with a solo homer from Bean. Oregon briefly took a 2-1 lead before the Pilots tacked on four runs in the second. Evan Scavotto and Holcroft each brought in a run with RBI hits while Jonas Salk brought in two to make it 5-2 Pilots. Holcroft's RBI double was the record-breaking hit for the outfielder.
Oregon responded with a run of their own before Toglia hit his solo shot to make it 6-3 Portland. Oregon made it a one-run game after scoring two in the fourth before the Pilots exploded in the fifth. Portland scored five runs, with Riley McCarthy scoring the first run with a double and Bean scoring two with his RBI single. Holcroft added a two-run homer in the inning to make it 11-5 Portland.
The Pilots shutout the Ducks the rest of the way and added four more runs to their total along the way. Toglia continued his big day at the plate with a two-run double in the seventh and Spencer Scott added an RBI off a sacrifice fly to make it 14-5 with two to play. Jonas Salk's RBI single in the top of the eighth put the score at its final.

» Portland got three-hit games from both Bean and Toglia. It's the first three-hit game of the season for Toglia and the second for Bean.
