LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The Portland Pilots struggled to get the bats going in their 4-0 loss to the LMU Lions on Friday.
Nick Brink (6-4) got the ball to start for Portland (23-16, 9-4) and took the loss. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out seven. Kaden Segel threw one shutout inning as well. The Pilots had four hits on the day, with Ben Patacsil leading the way with a 2-for-4 outing.
How it Happened
LMU scored one run in the first and three in the third to take the win. Khadim Diaw hit an RBI double to left field in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead then hit a three-run home run in the third to make it 4-0 Lions.
Portland's Brink was stellar on the mound the rest of the way, allowing just one runner on after the three-run homer. But the Pilots just couldn't close the gap offensively, falling 4-0.
