PORTLAND, Ore. -- Nick Brink had everything working on Friday, punching out nine Pacific hitters over seven innings of work to help propel the Portland Pilots over the Tigers 7-2. In addition to his nine strikeouts, Brink (6-1) threw seven innings, giving up one run on three hits and walking two for Portland (18-9, 4-0).
Jonas Salk was a standout hitter for the Pilots on Friday, compiling three hits in four trips to the plate with a home run, a double and two RBI's. Tyler Howard also went 2-for-4 at the dish and Jake Holcroft went 1-for-5 with two RBI's.
How it Happened
The Pilots got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Portland scored three runs in the frame, scoring by a two-run single off the bat of Holcroft and an RBI single from Howard.
The Pilots then held the Tigers scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Salk's run-scoring single highlighted an inning where Portland scored twice, which brought the score to 5-0 in favor of the Pilots.
Pacific narrowed Portland's lead to 5-1 before the Pilots stretched the advantage to 7-1 in the sixth inning. Portland added two runs, including one on a solo round-tripper from Salk, his fourth homer of the year. Pacific put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Portland still coasted to the 7-2 win.
