PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Portland Pilots got three hits out of Brady Bean in a 7-5 victory against the Washington Huskies Tuesday. The win gives Portland 32 victories on the year, tied for the most since Geoff Loomis took over in 2016. It was also their eighth win in a row, their longest streak since 2020.
Brock Gillis (1-2) started on the mound and picked up the win for Portland (32-17). The right-hander went five innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on two hits, allowing three walks and striking out five. Ryan Rembisz earned the save after pitching 1.1 innings with just one run allowed and a strikeout.
Four different Pilots hit home runs on the day. In addition to his three hits, Bean had a home run and an RBI to lead the Pilots. Zach Toglia put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and three RBI's. Jake Holcroft also contributed for Portland, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding a home run and an RBI. Evan Scavotto added the final homer in a 1-for-4 effort.
How it Happened
Trailing 2-0, the Pilots first put runs on the board in the third inning. Portland scored two runs on solo shots from Bean and Holcroft back-to-back.
The score stayed at 2-2 until the very next inning, when the Pilots put runs on the scoreboard once again. Portland scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Riley McCarthy, which brought the Pilots lead to 3-2.
Portland kept Washington without a run before building their lead to 6-2 in the seventh inning. The Pilots scored three runs, all of them coming on a three-run homer off the bat of Toglia that scored Christian Cooney and Ben Patacsil.
The Huskies gained ground, closing the gap to 6-4 until Portland added some insurance in the eighth. The Pilots added a run on Scavotto's leadoff home run off Grant Cunningham, bringing the Portland advantage to 7-4. Washington put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Pilots still held on for the 7-5 win.
