INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Individual qualifiers for the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field First Rounds were announced on Thursday and the University of Portland will be represented by six student-athletes at the West Regional hosted in Fayetteville, Ark. on May 22-25.
Courtney Klatt will be the lone Pilot from the women's team as she was the final qualifier in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 34:17.03.
On the men's side, Matt Strangio and Bradley Peloquin will compete in the 5,000-meter run. Strangio posted a school record time of 13:41.64, which is No. 19 in the region. Peloquin's time of 13:50.27 put him at No. 46 among the declared competition.
Jona Bodirsky will run the 10,000-meters after recording a qualifying time of 28:39.73, good for 25th among the field of participants. Portland will also have two representatives in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase in Estanis Ruiz (8:41.26, No. 14) and Thomas Chaston (8:48.24, No. 30).
The top 48 declared student-athletes from each event qualify for the East and West First Rounds. The qualifiers out of these two regions will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.
