EUGENE, Ore. – Portland junior Estanis Ruiz bested his own personal and school record with a time of 8:28.15 in Friday's 3,000-Meter Steeplechase finals at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field. He finished in sixth place overall to garner podium and first team All-America honors and is the 36th Pilot to earn All-America recognition for outdoor track & field.
Ruiz qualified for the finals after posting a new school record of 8:29.00 during Wednesday's semifinals, bettering the previous school mark of 8:35.28 by Riley Osen (2022).
Ruiz became the 64th Pilot to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships since 1992 as Portland has been represented at 31 of the last 32 national meets. He is the 13th runner on The Bluff to run in the Steeplechase at the NCAA meet and first since Osen in 2018.
