PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Pilots Women's Basketball have announced their schedule for the 2024-25 season. Portland's schedule features nine opponents who played postseason basketball last season, a trip to Reno for The Nugget Classic and revamped conference schedule that features new additions Oregon State and Washington State.
The Pilots play an exhibition against the Willamette Bearcats on Nov. 1 before they officially open the regular season at home against the Hawaii Rainbow Wahine on Nov. 7 in Portland. The Pilots last played Hawaii – who finished 20-11 last season and played in the Women's Basketball Invitational Tournament last year – in 2022, winning 70-54. After that, the Pilots will host the Corban Warriors on Nov. 12 for their midday education day game.
Portland takes a quick trip to Cheney, Wash. for their showdown against the Eastern Washington Eagles Nov. 17. Eastern Washington was one of the best teams in the Big Sky last season, Winning the Big Sky Tournament after finishing with a 29-6 record. They played in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, losing to Oregon State.
The Pilots return home after that for a pair of games at the Chiles Center, hosting the Seattle U Redhawks and the Cal Baptist Lancers on Nov. 19 and Nov. 23 respectively. The Redhawks are led by former assistant coach Skyler Young. The Pilots played the Lancers last season, narrowly falling on the road. The Lancers went on to finish 28-4 last year, playing in the 2024 NCAA Tournament after winning the 2024 WAC Tournament.
The Nugget Classic follows those two home games, with the Pilots heading to Reno from Nov. 29 through Dec. 1. Their opponents are yet to be determined. They'll return home for a marquee matchup against Ivy League champs, the Princeton Tigers. The Tigers were one of the best Mid-Major teams in women's basketball at 25-5 overall and 13-1 in Ivy League play. They lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to West Virginia.
The Pilots will host the UTEP Miners on Dec. 8 and the Portland State Vikings on Dec. 13 for their final two nonconference home games. The Pilots beat both squads in the 2023-24 season, taking down both teams on the road. The Pilots have defeated their crosstown rivals in the Vikings each of the last three seasons.
Portland opens the conference slate in Los Angeles on Dec. 19 against the LMU Lions. The Pilots took all three contests they had against the Lions this past season. The Pilots will then host the Pacific Tigers on Dec. 21, a team who split their games against Portland in the 2023-24 season and finished 19-15 to qualify for the WNIT. They advanced to the second round of the tournament.
The Pilots will play the Santa Clara Broncos on the road after that, taking on a squad that finished second in the conference last year at 25-9 overall and 12-4 WCC. The Broncos were second in the conference last year, but fell to the Pilots in the semifinal of the WCC Tournament. The Pilots then host their new conference mates in the Oregon State Beavers, who put together an electric Elite 8 run last season and finished 27-8 overall. They lost to eventual the eventual national champions, the South Carolina Gamecocks.
A rematch of the 2024 WCC Tournament Championship occurs on Jan. 2, with the Pilots hosting the Gonzaga Bulldogs. The Pilots beat the Bulldogs – who finished 33-4 overall and 16-0 in WCC play before the championship – in the championship 67-66 to win their third title in five years and their second in a row. The Bulldogs advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
The Pilots play host to LMU on Jan. 4 before taking on the Pepperdine Waves on Jan. 9 in Malibu. The Pilots beat the Waves in both contests last season. They will then host the San Francisco Dons for the first time on Jan. 11. The Dons went 14-16 overall and 10-6 in WCC play to finish fourth in the WCC. They split their two games with the Pilots last year.
A three-game road stretch follows for Portland, who will have their rematches against Gonzaga and Oregon State on Jan. 16 and Jan. 18 respectively. They then play the Washington State Cougars on Jan. 23, another new WCC affiliate member, in Pullman. The Cougars finished 21-15 overall and made it all the way to the WBIT semifinals last year. They narrowly beat the Pilots at the Chiles Center back in the 2022-23 season.
The Saint Mary's Gaels come to Portland on Jan. 30 to finish off the month. The Gaels finished 13-18 overall and 6-10 in WCC play last year to take sixth in the conference. The Pilots host the Waves on Feb. 1 to start off the final month of regular season play before playing the San Diego Toreros for the first time in San Diego on Feb. 6. The Toreros finished eighth in the conference last year at 9-22 overall and 4-12 in WCC play.
Portland plays the Gaels once again, this time in Moraga, on Feb. 13 before hosting Washington State in a doubleheader with the men on Feb. 15. Their final two home games will see them host the Toreros and the Broncos on Feb. 20 and Feb. 22 respectively, and they will finish the season on the road against San Francisco and Pacific on Feb. 27 and March 1.
For the 17th consecutive year, the Conference will host the Credit Union 1 WCC Basketball Championship at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. This season's event will be held March 6-11, 2025.

The Pilots finished with a 21-13 record overall, winning 20-plus games for the third seasons in a row, a first for the program since 1997.
