PORTLAND, Ore. – In their final home match of the season, the Portland Pilots shut out the Gonzaga Bulldogs at home 1-0. The win puts Portland at 8-3-6 overall and 5-1-3 in WCC play.
Jillian McBride had the lone goal of the day for Portland, scoring in the 36
th minute. It's her first goal of the year and second of her career. The Pilots beat the Zags for the first time since 2017.
How it Happened
McBride's first goal came on a ripper. Keeley Dockter dispossessed the Zags and pushed the ball up the field, finding McBride outside the box. McBride dribbled in and sent a screaming shot right above the Bulldogs and into the net, giving Portland a 1-0 lead.
Gonzaga pushed and even earned a penalty kick opportunity in the second half, but couldn't capitalize on any chances. The Pilots fended off six Gonzaga shots in the final 45 to earn the 1-0 win.
Game Notes
- The goal for McBride is her first of the year and the second of her career.
- McBride is the seventh Pilot to score this season.
- Keeley Dockter becomes the second Pilot to post multiple assists this season.
- The shutout is the ninth of the year for Portland and the ninth for Sophia Hills. It's the most for a Pilot squad since 2023.
- Portland is unbeaten in their last five matches.
- This is Portland's first win over the Bulldogs since 2017 and first under head coach Michelle French.
