SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Portland Pilots Men's Soccer goalkeeper Miguel-Angel Hernandez earned the final West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week of the 2025 season, his third win this season.
Hernandez was stellar for the Pilots in goal in their regular season finale against the Saint Mary's Gaels. Hernandez earned his eight shutout of the season while posting three saves in a 1-0 win over the Gaels. All three of the saves for Hernandez came in the second half of the match, with Saint Mary's posting 19 shots.
Hernandez has been one of the best goalkeepers in the conference this season, starting 16 games in goal. His save percentage of .795 leads the conference and ranks 25
th nationally and goals-against average of .563 ranks second in the WCC and fifth nationally. He's one of just four goalkeepers in the nation to play 15 games or more and allow nine goals or fewer.
It's been a stellar season for the Portland Pilots, who went 13-1-3 overall and 6-1-2 in WCC play for their best regular season record since 1995 and highest winning percentage (.853) since 1988. They qualified for the 2025 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship on Monday, earning the 8-seed in the tournament.
The Pilots will host a second round NCAA tournament game after earning a first-round bye for the second time in three seasons and the third time in program history. They will play the winner of the first-round game between the UC Irvine Anteaters and the Denver Pioneers on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for tickets, live stats and video options.
