PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots got back in the win column on Saturday with a 65-52 victory over the Nevada Wolf Pack. The win puts the Pilots at 3-4 on the year.
Dyani Ananiev led the Pilots with 13 points along with six steals, four boards and four assists. It's the second time she's reached at least six steals in a game this year, matching her career high. Ananiev has led the Pilots in scoring two times this year as well.
Julia Dalan also reached her career high with 12 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. She's posted four games with multiple blocks this season. Portland held the Wolf Pack to just 36.5% shooting from the field and forced 19 turnovers with nine steals.
How it Happened
The first quarter was a tight battle, with neither team gaining a clear advantage. Dyani Ananiev was hot from outside, hitting a pair of 3-pointers and posting eight points in the quarter. The Pilots scored six second-chance points and seven points on the fast break to take an early 20-16 lead through the first 10 minutes.
Portland took charge the following quarter. They held the Wolf Pack scoreless for the first six minutes and eventually put together a 13-2 run to take a double-digit lead. They entered the halftime break with a 38-25 lead after holding the Wolfpack to just 16.7% shooting in the second period.
Nevada came out firing in the third quarter, hitting shots at an over 70% clip before the first media timeout and putting together a 10-0 run to start the quarter. But Portland never wavered, holding off the Wolf Pack to hold a 54-45 lead through three quarters.
Nevada tried to cut into Portland's lead, but the Pilots proved too tough. They held the Wolf Pack to 16.7% shooting and just seven fourth-quarter points to cruise to a 65-52 win.
