LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Portland Pilots ended the regular season with a victory, taking down the LMU Lions 2-1 on the road. The win puts the Pilots at 10-3-6 and 7-1-3 in WCC play for their third 10-win season in the last four years and their highest WCC win total since 2013.
Violet Rademacher scored on a penalty kick while Mao Ito hit the game winner. Rademacher's goal was her seventh of the year while Ito's was her second. With the win, the Pilots finish in a tie for second in the conference, their best finish since 2013.
How it Happened
LMU scored quickly, taking a lead in the 6
th minute 1-0. Portland responded in the 40
th minute, earning a penalty kick after Jillian McBride was tackled in the box. Violet Rademacher stepped up and scored for the fourth time this year on a PK to tie it up at 1-1.
Portland claimed the lead in the 57
th minute. Ruby Settle crossed it into the box, with the ball sailing over the heads of the LMU back line. Mao Ito came in head down and sent it in with the header to give Portland a 2-1 lead. The lead held the rest of the way.
