SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Portland Pilots center Julia Dalan earned her first West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week award on Monday, garnering the honor after a stellar performance against Long Beach State. She's the first Pilot to win any weekly honor from the conference this season.
Dalan was stellar in Portland's dominant 94-58 win over the Beach, posting 13 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks for her second double-double of the season. She's one of just 10 players in the WCC to have multiple double-doubles this year and the only Pilot to have recorded one. She's the first Pilot with multiple double-doubles as a freshman since Alex Fowler in the 2019-20 season. She's posted eight games this season with multiple blocks.
From Centralia, Dalan is one of the top freshmen in the conference, averaging 7.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.6 blocks per contest. That block average currently leads the NCAA, and her 36 blocks this year are tied for the most in the NCAA as well. She has the most blocks by any Pilot in their freshman season since Rachel Warren in the 2005-06 season.
The Pilots currently sit at 5-5 on the season, with their most recent game being a rout of Long Beach State. Portland is back in action this week with a trip to Eugene to face off against the Oregon Ducks. The two teams play on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 11 a.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats and video options.
