How it Happened
The Pilots were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Bean put Portland on the board with a one-out solo home run off Tommy Scavone, tying the game at one.
The Waves took a 2-1 lead before the Pilots scored four runs in the third. The Portland offense exploded for four runs, generated by a two-run double off the bat of Kane, an RBI double from Bean and an RBI single from Salk to make it 5-2 Portland.
Pepperdine scored two before the Pilots stretched the advantage to 6-4 in the fifth inning. The Pilots scored on a walk with the bases loaded. Portland held the Waves without a run before expanding their lead in the eighth inning, with three runs coming off an RBI single from Kane and a two-run double from Salk. The score remained 9-4 for the rest of the game, as the Pilots coasted to the win.
