Join Portland Pilots Men's Soccer on Saturday, April 26 for the first annual Friends of UP Men's Soccer Dinner and Auction! The first of its kind event starts at 6 p.m. here on The Bluff at Bauccio Commons.
"We are excited to launch an initial event to help support UP Men's Soccer to celebrate our incredible history while preparing for the future in the ever-changing college landscape," Portland head coach Nick Carlin-Voigt said. "We invite all alumni, community members and friends of the program to spend an evening with us on April 26."
Saturday's event is focused on celebrating the accomplishments of Portland Pilots Men's Soccer while also fundraising to bolster a renowned program. The event will feature an auction of several enticing items, including a signed Argentina Men's National Team jersey from their 2022 World Cup victory, season tickets for the 2025 season and more!
Several alumni from Portland's historic past will be joining for the event as well as Portland Timbers legend Diego Valeri. Valeri was the 2017 Major League Soccer MVP and helped lead the Timbers to their first and only MLS Cup title back in 2015. He was named to the MLS All-Star team four times and the MLS Best XI three times. A dinner with Valeri at Blu Olive is an auction item for the night as well.
"Key alumni are already committed to coming back and we are excited to bring back members from our first team all the way to our current team," Carlin-Voigt said. "We are also excited to have Timber great and MLS MVP Diego Valeri speak at the event."
This past season, the Pilots finished at 7-4-7 overall and 4-0-4 in WCC play, ending the year on a 10-game unbeaten streak that was the longest on the West Coast and the third longest in the country. They earned four wins over teams that finished in the top 35 in RPI this season as well. They have achieved a top 10 ranking nationally in each of the last three seasons and led the country in goals scored between the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
The Pilots have also had 12 players move on to play in MLS since Nick Carlin-Voigt took over as head coach in 2016. Eight players have been drafted, with Paul Christensen, Rey Ortiz, Kevin Bonilla, Jacob Babalai and Buba Fofanah all being taken in the MLS SuperDraft. Efetobo Aror and Nick Fernandez were taken in the first and second round in this year's SuperDraft as well, with Fernandez signing with the San Jose Earthquakes in February. Benji Michel and Kris Reaves each signed homegrown contracts with Orlando SC and FC Dallas respectively back in 2018 while Delentz Pierre and Brandon Cambridge each signed with Real Salt Lake and Charlotte FC in 2022 and Tommy Musto signed with LAFC in 2024.
Doors open at 6 p.m. at the Bauccio Commons Board Room, with the program set to start at 6:45 p.m. Individual tickets start at $150, with full tables set at $1,000.
