LAS VEGAS, Nev. – In what proved to be the final game of the season, the Portland Pilots fell 12-8 in the first round of the 2025 WCC Tournament to the LMU Lions.
Morgan Codron (2-2) was saddled with the loss for the Pilots (22-30). He threw 1.1 innings with four runs counted against him. Kaden Segel started for Portland, going five innings with five runs conceded but just two earned.
Portland put up eight runs on 11 hits, led by Tyler Howard's 3-for-5 outing with an RBI. Zach Toglia, Brady Bean Trey Swygart each posted two hits on the day, with Toglia adding an RBI, and Cole Katayama-Stall hit a three-run homer for his ninth of the year.
How it Happened
The scoring began in the third inning with a stellar frame from the Pilots. They scored five runs, including an RBI single from Tyle Howard and a three-run bomb from Cole Katayama-Stall, to make it 5-0 Portland.
LMU began to chip away at that lead, hitting three home runs across the third, fourth and fifth innings to drive in five runs in total and even the score. The Pilots finally struck back in the seventh inning, scoring on RBI singles from Zach Toglia and Spencer Scott to make it 8-5 Portland.
But the lead did not last. The Lions scored seven in the seventh to put the Pilots in a four-run hole. Portland could not make up the difference, losing 12-8.
