PORTLAND, Ore. – Amidst the chaos of a power outage that delayed play for approximately an hour, the Portland Pilots defeated the Northwestern Wildcats 8-2 on Monday, extending their winning streak to seven games. The Pilots are now 15-7 with wins in 13 of their last 15 games.
The Pilots had seven runs on seven hits, with Trey Swygart's two hits leading Portland. He was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI's, extending his hit streak to five games. Jonas Salk scored three runs with a double in the seventh, going 1-for-4 overall. He's the first Pilot to 20 RBI's this season.
Carter Gaston was lights out on the mound, going seven innings with just one run and four hits allowed along with five strikeouts. He has four wins on the year, the most on the Pilots, and has yet to allow more than one earned run in an outing this year.
How it Happened
The Wildcats got on the board first with an RBI single in the second. The Wildcats led 1-0 after the run. Portland claimed the lead in the sixth, with Swygart hitting a two-run double to make it 2-1 Portland.
Portland took control in the bottom of seventh. They scored five runs in the inning, driving home a run on a hit by pitch, another on an RBI single from Cody Nitowitz and three more on a double from Jonas Salk.
Northwestern hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth, and then a long game delay occurred after the lights at the stadium briefly went out, causing a delay for approximately an hour. Play resumed late, with the Pilots scoring one more run off a double from Carter Stewart. Northwestern scored one more run to make it 8-3, but the Pilots still cruised to the win.

- Gaston earned his fourth win on the year, going seven innings with one run and four hits allowed and five strikeouts.
- Gaston's seven innings pitched are the most by a Pilot this season. His four wins are also a team high.
- Swygart had a team-high two hits, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI's.
- Salk drove in three runs in a 1-for-4 outing. He's the first Pilot to 20 RBI's this season.
- This is Portland's second win over a Big Ten team this season.
