PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots advanced to the Super 16 of the Women's National Invitation Tournament with the 78-68 win over the Lamar Lady Cardinals. The win puts Portland at 20-14 on the year, their fifth straight 20-win season.
This is the first time the Pilots have advanced to the third round of the WNIT and just their seventh ever playoff win. All seven wins have come under head coach Michael Meek. It's also the third home playoff victory for the Pilots as well.

How it Happened
Ananiev got the Pilots off to a hot start, scoring 10 points in the first quarter to pace the action for Portland. The Pilots went on a 10-2 run to open the game, keeping Lamar at arm's length most of the quarter. The Pilots held the Cardinals without a field goal for the final two-and-a-half minutes and the Tiffany Barbosa hit a layup late to make it 22-13 Portland through one.
Portland put together a 6-0 run early in the second quarter, pushing their lead to 14 points. The Pilots and Cardinals traded runs from there, with Lamar putting together a 7-0 run soon after. After getting the lead back up to double digits, the Cardinals had a 9-0 run that cut Portland's lead to one, with a layup from Mogel putting Portland up 38-35 at the half.
The third quarter was a physical period on both sides, with 13 fouls combined and 16 free throws. The lead changed hands four times in the period, with a late 3-pointer giving the Pilots some cushion at four points. Both teams combined for 39 points with just one point separating them, with Portland leading 58-54 through three.
Lamar hit a quick 3-pointer to start the quarter, but the Pilots took back control quickly. They put together a 10-0 run, buoyed by two Ananiev 3-pointers, to make it a double-digit game. Lamar couldn't make up the gap, with the Pilots cruising to a 78-68 win.
