MALIBU, Calif. – The Portland Pilots fell 5-2 to the Pepperdine Waves on Sunday, with the Waves completing the sweep. The Pilots fall to 25-23 overall and 11-13 in WCC play.
Carter Stewart had another solid day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. It's his second straight multi-hit game and third this season. Joe Fagan recorded his second career multi-hit game on Sunday, batting 2-for-3. Brady Bean drove in an RBI for the Pilots, claiming sole possession of 10
th place all time for Portland.
Kaden Segel took the loss in the start, going 3.2 innings with five runs and eight hits allowed along with four strikeouts. Morgan Codron, however, was solid in relief, going 4.1 innings with no runs allowed and four strikeouts. Codron's 4.1 innings pitched are a season high.
How it Happened
A two-run homer from Pepperdine started the scoring in the first, but Portland cut into that lead in the third. Bean drove in the run on a groundout, sending Jonas Salk home to make it just 2-1 Waves.
Pepperdine built on that lead in the fourth with three more runs, but Portland got back on the board with a run in the sixth. Stewart drove in his second RBI of the weekend on a single, bringing home Bean to make it just 5-2 Waves. But Portland couldn't manufacture any more runs, falling by that score.
Game Notes
- Stewart recorded his second straight multi-hit game with a 2-for-3 performance. Stewart added an RBI as well.
- Fagan had his second career multi-hit game with a 2-for-3 outing.
- Bean drove in an RBI for his 115th runner batted in as a Pilot. That's good for sole possession of 10th place all-time for Portland.
- Segel took the loss after allowing five runs in 3.2 innings.
