CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Portland Pilots fell behind early and couldn't close the gap, falling 8-3 to the No. 7 Oregon State Beavers. The loss puts Portland at 25-24 on the year.
The Pilots had just three hits on the day but scored three runs, buoyed by a two-run homer from Cole Katayama-Stall. It was Katayama-Stall's 10
th homer of the year, making him the only Pilot to have at least 10 homers this season. Jonas Salk and Trey Swygart had the other two hits for Portland. Carter Gaston took the loss in the start, allowing six runs in 3.2 innings. Kaden Starr, Nolan Umlandt and Aaron Louis all made appearances as well.
How it Happened
Oregon State scored the first eight runs of the ball game. The Beavers scored on a walk in the second, a three-run triple and a sac fly in the third, an RBI single in the fourth and a two-run double in the sixth. Portland finally got on the board with an RBI on a groundout in the seventh and Katayama-Stall's two-run bomb in the eighth, but the Pilots still fell 8-3.
Game Notes
- Katayama-Stall hit his 10th home run of the season. He is the only Pilot to have double-digit home runs this season.
- Katayama-Stall has 19 homers for his career, tied for 17th in program history through just two seasons.
- Swygart and Salk also recorded hits in the contest.
- Gaston took the loss after allowing six runs in 3.2 innings.
