TECHNOLOGY
POLAR Team 2
The University of Portland Sports Performance Staff utilizes the POLAR Team2 heart rate monitoring system to track training load as well as training stimulus. This monitoring aids in the planning and individualizing of future training to meet the student-athletes specific needs. We utilize this HR technology during pre and post assessments, as well as our conditioning sessions to better improve our training programs and support performance and recovery adaptations for each student-athlete.
Daily Wellness and Session RPE
Our staff utilizes an excel platform to monitor daily life adaptations of a student-athlete and how it affects their training and development. We collect Wellness and Session RPE daily to provide subjective/objective measurements of readiness for upcoming sessions. This information helps determine an optimal weight room session for each individual whether that be performance or recovery-focused. We also utilize Acute:Chronic training loads to drive our return-to-performance continuum. A safe and progressive program is developed with this data to support each individual in returning to play, practice, and competition without putting them at risk for reinjury. Creating reports is vital for educating the student-athlete on how to appropriately utilize 24 hours within a day to positively affect performance in the weight room and on the field/court of play.
PUSH Bands
Our staff also utilizes PUSH Bands to monitor power and velocity outputs during training sessions. The criteria of the force-velocity curve help us determine the optimal training zones for specific goals of speed or strength during training. This tool is also used to auto-regulate training sessions throughout non-competitive and competitive seasons. The PUSH Bands provide us with the ability to adjust daily training loads for individuals with varied fitness and fatigue levels, allowing for optimal training stimuli for each student-athlete.
