LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Every individual is a leader regardless of age or position on the team. Delving into the concept and stereotype of leadership and what makes for a successful leader, student-athletes collectively work to broaden their understanding of the notion. Student-athletes are given room to personally reflect on their own leadership styles and characteristics and learn to appreciate how this interacts with others.
Specific topics for programming include personality, communication, culture, respect, and empathy. Â

CULTURAL COMPETENCY
As a leader and community member it is important to recognize the value and importance of diversity. Appreciation is only the beginning, it’s key to know how to discuss differences that exist amongst individuals without singling anyone out or imposing your own beliefs and biases. Diving beyond competency this session will also work to establish what it means to have cultural humility.
