NATIONAL TEAM/OLYMPIC DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM: Played in the Canadian National Team system for four years … was also a member of the Provincial Team (U13 – U16).
2012: Started and appeared in 18 matches … posted three shutouts, which came at Cal State Fullerton (Aug. 26), vs. San Francisco (Sept. 28) and at San Francisco (Nov. 11) … second in the league in saves with 74 … made career-high 11 saves in 0-0 tie at USF.
2011: Started all 20 matches and played every minute in goal during the season … posted three shutouts and made 72 saves … registered two straight shutouts against Gonzaga (Oct. 26) and Saint Mary’s (Oct. 28), which was part of a stretch of 247 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal.
2010: Utilized redshirt season.
2009: His only two appearances and one start came during the NCAA Playoffs … in an NCAA First Round game at New Mexico on Nov. 19, he saw his first action of the season when he came in during overtime; the Pilots would go on to win 2-1, advancing to the Second Round … made his first career start and his first three career saves as the Pilots won 2-1 at NC State in an NCAA Second Round game on Nov. 22 … finished season with three saves and a 0.95 goals against average in 94:58 minutes played.
TAMANAWIS SECONDARY: Played for coach Sangha … helped lead the Wildcats senior boys’ team to the Provincial Playoffs in 2009 for the first time in school history … as a forward, he scored three goals during the provincials, including the game-tying goal during the group stage game.
CLUB: Played for the Vancouver Whitecaps U-18 team … won several league and provincial championships with his club teams, while his B.C. U-14 team finished second at nationals … played with the North Delta Selects club team for seven years and was named the U-14 league MVP … placed third at nationals in 2010 after winning both state and regionals with Westside Metro Internationals.
PERSONAL: Born on Feb 21, 1991 in Vancouver, B.C. … parents are Brenda and Steve Baarts … major is life science … uncle is UP assistant coach Rob Baarts; cousin Tyler is a senior defender for the Pilots.
