OLYMPIC DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM: Competed at the U.S. Soccer Development Academy for two years with FC Portland and his teammates Alex Gatewood, Thomas Iwasaki and Matt Dally.
2012: Started all 19 games … helped Pilots record three shutouts on the year … attempted three shots, one on-goal.
2011: Started 16 matches and appeared in 17 … helped the Pilots register three shutouts on the year.
2010: Made 11 appearances and four starts at defender … starts came at UNM (Sept. 12), at Seattle (Sept. 26), at Gonzaga (Sept. 29) and at Santa Clara (Nov. 12) … attempted one shot on the season and helped the Pilots record six shutouts.
JESUIT HS: Earned three letters for head coach Chris Thurley … helped the Crusaders claim the Metro League Championship as a senior en route to a semi-final finish in the 2009 Oregon 6A State Tournament … Jesuit reached the state quarterfinals in 2008 … he was named first-team all-state in 2009 after garnering second-team all-state honors as a junior.
CLUB: A member of FC Portland for 13 years, Baarts and his U-14 club team won the State Cup and advanced the regional quarterfinals.
PERSONAL: Born on Sept. 30, 1991 in Portland, Ore. … parents are Kathy Baarts and Rob Baarts … major is organizational communication … father Rob is an assistant coach at UP and was a stand-out on the field for the Pilots from 1987-90 … his cousin Justin Baarts is a goalkeeper for the Pilots.
