Pierre Garcia officially was hired as a volunteer assistant coach in August of 2018 after being a mainstay in the lineup for the previous four years. Garcia racked played in the middle of the lineup throughout his career and was key in leading Portland to its first West Coast Conference regular season title in 2017.
Garcia finished his career with a 76-51 overall singles record, including 47-30 mark in dual matches. Garcia was also a dynamic doubles player with a 56-43 career record. As a freshman in 2015, Garcia posted a perfect 6-0 singles record in WCC play. He earned All-WCC honorable mention recognition for singles in 2016 and doubles in 2018.
“One of the toughest things about graduating so many players last year was losing the maturity that those guys gained through hard work and hard lessons,” Gross said. “I don’t think anyone epitomized that as much as Pierre. He came so far, both as a player and a person, over the last four years. He is the perfect guy to be here and helping the freshmen adjust to life on and off the court. He was in their shoes just four short years ago and he thrived. Pierre’s knowledge of the game is awesome and his passion to share that has really shown through the conversations that we have had. He will be a great addition to our coaching staff.”
