Andrew Clifton joined the University of Portland volleyball program as an assistant coach in the summer of 2013. He will assist with all aspects of the program including academics, recruiting, on court training, video, scouting, and summer camps.

Clifton previously served as the top assistant at Cal State Monterey Bay since January of 2012 and helped the Otters break three individual single-season school records in his one season with the program. He also elevated the CSUMB summer camps to unprecedented levels and was in charge of team academics, helping the squad achieve higher than a 3.0 GPA in 2012.
Prior to his time at CSUMB, Clifton served as an assistant coach at Hope International University in 2010. He trained the setters and coordinated the offensive system.Â
After more than 15 years of club coaching experience, Clifton started Roots Volleyball Club in the fall of 2008. Under his direction in four years, the club grew to four different age groups ranging from 14-to-18 year olds. Six seniors since 2008 from the program went on to play collegiate volleyball.

Clifton has also served as a lead coach in the nationally renowned Gold Medal Squared Camps founded by former national team coaches Carl McGown, Doug Beal and Marv Dunphy.
His high school coaching experience includes stints at Long Beach Jordan High School (2003-2008) and Woodbridge High School (1999-2002). In his first year at Woodbridge, he led the Warriors to the CIF final four. In 2002, the team achieved a top ten national ranking.Â

Clifton is a 2000 graduate of UC Irvine with a bachelor's degree in studio art. He was a two-year member of the Anteater volleyball team, leading UCI to a No. 10 national ranking under MPSF Coach of the Year Charlie Brande in 1999.

He received his Master’s in Education from National University in Costa Mesa, Calif. in 2008 and currently resides in Portland with his wife, Lisa, and dog, Toby.
