Shamrell competed for the Oregon State Volleyball team from 2002 to 2005. While in Corvallis, she received Pac-10 conference All-Academic Team Honorable mention in 2002, 2003, and 2005 and was named the team co-captain in 2005.
 
After graduation Shamrell began coaching in San Diego, Calif. for Wave Volleyball Club leading her team to a 16-3 record in 2007. In 2010 she made a jump to the east coast where she was the technical assistant for the Fredericksburg Junior Volleyball Club. She was in charge of organizing and running practice, private lessons, conditioning, organizing and running camps, and assisting players through the recruiting process. Most recently Shamrell worked for Portland Volleyball Club as the head coach for the 16 Silver team.
 
In addition to a strong coaching resume, Shamrell brings a nutritional background to the coaching staff. She owns and is a health coach for Kate Shamrell Health where she provides nutritional counseling and personal training.
