Rydberg joined the staff as an assistant coach in April of 2013. Previously as an assistant coach at UNLV, Rydberg helped coach the Rebels to an 18-11 record in 2012, with two all-conference members and four all-academic players.
Rydberg came to the Pilots having already amassed an impressive resume with over 20 years coaching volleyball on the collegiate, club and high school levels. Prior to his two-year stint with the Rebels, Rydberg coached for Wright State (2007-09), Arkansas State (2000-02), Oregon (1995-99), Portland State (1994-95) and Cal Poly (1991-94).
During his career, Rydberg has coached 11 All-Conference players and two All-Americans (Division II).
Rydberg’s experience also includes coaching positions with several volleyball clubs including the SLO Juniors Volleyball Club, where has was the head coach for two-plus years after two years as an assistant. He was involved with the Storm N West Volleyball Club, Southside Volleyball Club, Athletes in Action men's touring team and Webfoot Juniors Volleyball Club.
Along with his coaching experience, Rydberg has also contributed to the sport in writing. His article "Basic Motor Learning Principles for Coaching Volleyball" appeared in the August/September 1994 edition of Coaching Volleyball and he was a contributing author to the 1995 book Mental Training and Performance Enhancement Guide for Volleyball Coaches and Players.
