Alex Brown, who spent the previous year working with the University of Portland women’s basketball program in a volunteer capacity, was hired as the Director of Operations in July of 2018. Brown takes over the position that was vacated by Tiffany Gibson, who was elevated to assistant coach.
With the Pilots, Brown worked closely with the coaching staff, which included developing personnel scouting reports. He also assisted in breaking down film, and he collaborated with the staff in scouting the opposition.
“Alex is a great addition the coaching staff,” said Sorenson. “After volunteering for the program last year, it was an easy transition to bring him aboard. He is well-rounded, high-energy, and a go-getter, and we’re excited to fold him into the family.”
“I’m thrilled by the opportunity to join an amazing group of coaches and players and be a part of a program that I know has a bright future,” Brown said. “I look forward to contributing to the success of the program and am excited be a Pilot.”
Originally from San Francisco, Brown graduated from Gonzaga with a B.A. in physical education in 2011. Prior to his involvement in UP women’s basketball, Brown spent time as a teacher in Missouri, Cost Rica, and South Korea. He also managed a resort in Colorado with his wife, Amber, before making the move to the Rose City.
With the Pilots, Brown’s responsibilities will include team travel, Teamworks scheduling, budgets, events and functions, and technology. He will also act as the program’s camp director.
