Alison Knoedler was named the Director of Academic and Student-Athlete Development in December 2014. In this role she serves as the primary academic liaison between the athletic department and the University faculty, coordinates academic support for all UP student-athletes, and manages student-athlete development programming and events.
Alison joined the Pilot family in 2013 as the Student Development Coordinator in the Athletic Department where she provided academic support to select teams and student-athletes, coordinated meals and housing for all teams, and managed summer school, honors and awards, and the NCAA Student-Athlete Opportunity Fund.
Alison attended Stanford University as a student athlete and majored in Urban Studies with a focus in Education. After graduating in 2007, Alison played on the USA National Water Polo Team where she became a two-time World Champion in 2007 and 2009, and a 2008 Olympic Silver Medalist.
When she retired as an athlete, she completed the elementary teaching credential program at California State University Long Beach.
Alison moved to the Portland area in 2010 where she worked as an elementary substitute teacher in the Lake Oswego and West Linn Wilsonville School Districts before starting her position at University of Portland. Alison currently lives in SW Portland with her husband, Erik, where she coaches the local high school and club water polo teams.
