Former Pilots midfielder Miguel Guante signs with FC Dallas of MLS, while his former Portland teammate Sean Babcock decides to finish school
DALLAS, Texas --- Former Portland Pilots midfielder Miguel Guante, who was selected in the 2006 MLS Supplemental Draft, signed to play for FC Dallas of Major League Soccer, announced Dallas head coach Colin Clarke. Fellow midfielder and former Portland teammate Sean Babcock, who was also selected by FC Dallas in the supplemental draft, has elected to return to the University of Portland to complete his senior year and receive his degree in Marketing and Management.
Guante will join other draftees and returning players Drew Moor, Ramon Nuñez, Mario Torres and Aaron Pitchkolan on the team’s 10-man developmental roster. Justin Moore, the team’s first pick of the second round (15th overall) of the 2006 MLS SuperDraft will be the lone rookie on the senior roster.
Per MLS rules and regulations, Babcock will remain on FC Dallas’ College Protected Roster through the end of the 2007.
Guante, a native of Huachaca, Ariz., was named to the All-West Coast Conference Second Team all four years at Portland. Miguel moved to the attacking midfield position before his junior season after spending his first two years on The Bluff as a defender. For his career, he scored six goals, recorded nine assists, totaled twenty-one points and scored two game-winners.
Babcock, from Corvallis, Ore., started 15 and appeared in 16 games in 2005 for the Pilots at midfield. For his career, Babcock scored five goals and recorded 10 assists for 20 points. He also racked up 108 shots and recorded three game-winners.
