Former Portland Pilots pitcher Eric Hull is called up by the Los Angeles Dodgers
PITTSBURGH, Pa. --- The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled former Portland Pilots right-handed pitcher Eric Hull from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday to replace injured reliever Yhency Brazoban, who went on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder. The Dodgers flew Hull to Pittsburgh, where L.A. and the Pirates conclude a four-game series on Monday.
Hull has yet to see any action and it’s unknown how long the native of Yakima, Wash. will be with the big squad. According to Dodgers.com, the team needs to make room on the roster for injured starter Jason Schmidt, who is expected to be activated on Tuesday.
With the Las Vegas 51’s this year, Hull is 2-2 with two saves and a 3.60 ERA, striking out 27 and allowing only one homer in 27.1 innings worked.
Hull signed with the Dodgers as an undrafted free agent on June 18, 2002. During his second season as a pro, Hull compiled a 2.68 ERA at Vero Beach in 2003, but started the next year right back there. He was promoted midway through 2004 to Double-A Jacksonville, but in 2005 again was not promoted and started that year at Jacksonville. He spent all of 2006 at Triple-A Las Vegas, where he struck out 78 and allowed only 54 hits in 73 innings, but opened 2007 right back at Las Vegas.
Hull spent two years pitching on The Bluff. As a senior in 2002, he earned All-West Coast Conference second-team honors for the second straight season after leading the league with eight saves. He also posted a 2-3 record in 2002 with a 3.64 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 59.1 innings.
