BARR NETS HAT-TRICK IN 4-0 PILOT WIN
PORTLAND -- Sophomore midfielder Betsy Barr scored two of her career-high three goals in the first 1:34 Friday, leading Portland to a 4-0 win over visiting Denver. The Pilots improved to 4-0-0, while Denver dropped to 1-2-1.
Barr stunned Denver just 38 seconds into the match after ramming home a cross from Erin Goodling. Barr advanced Portland to a 2-0 lead less than a minute later when she banged in a shot from 12 yards out, off the left far post and past a sprawling DU keeper.
Portland held a 21-4 shot advantage over the Pioneers, but Portland keeper Cheryl Loveless had to make only three uneventful saves to earn her fourth straight shutout.
Just 5:49 before haltime, Ana Del Bosques intended cross from the right angle found the back of the goal after skipping some four yards shy of the net. Barr completed the scoring at 84:06 when Lauren Mussallem sent a centering pass to Barr, who spun her defender and rocketed a ball past the Pioneer defense.
Portland hosts Texas Tech Sunday afternoon at 1:15 p.m.
