JONESBORO, Ark. --- Down to their final out, the Portland Pilots scored two unearned runs to rally past Arkansas State for a 5-4 nonconference victory Sunday afternoon at Tomlinson Stadium and Kell Field. Junior Chris Dennis picked up his second win of the season with 2.2 innings of solid relief while senior C.J. Cullen continues his torrid start from the plate, tacking on two hits and two RBI.

The University of Portland women’s track team performed well last weekend at the UW Final Qualifier indoor and Linfield Eric Anderson Icebreaker outdoor meets, including a school indoor record by junior Cori Moore in the women’s 800-meter run in Seattle. Moore clocked a time of 2:05, which ranks No. 14 nationally and qualifies her for the NCAA Indoor Championship.

The University of Portland (21-9, 10-4 WCC) advanced to the semifinals of the 2010 Zappos.com West Coast Conference Basketball Championships and will face No. 2 Saint Mary’s in a rematch of last year’s semifinals on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN2. The No. 3 seed Pilots defeated No. 6 San Diego on Saturday, 72-57. The WCC championship game is scheduled for Monday at 6 p.m.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. --- After trailing by five at the half, the Santa Clara Broncos used a big second-half run to defeat the Portland Pilots 74-61 in the quarterfinals of the West Coast Conference Championships at the Orleans Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Pilots end the year with an 18-12 overall record and register the most wins in a season since the 1997-98 campaign.
