POWELL BUTTE, Ore. --- Not even a Central Oregon snowstorm could keep the Portland Pilots women’s golf team from defeating Northern Illinois 454-465 at a dual match played at Brasada Ranch Golf Club. Originally scheduled as a 36-hole, two-day event, the dual was shortened to 27 holes on Monday after snow wiped out Sunday’s round.
Portland sophomore McKennon O’Rourke tallied seven birdies to finish on top of the field with an even par 108. She was tied for the lead after 18 holes with a 74, but finished with a two-under par 34 on the day’s final nine to claim medalist honors.
UP freshmen Avery Collura and Rachael Fischer tied for third, coming in with a 113. Collura fired a 74 during the opening 18 holes, while Fischer opened with a 77.
Northern Illinois’ Kim Hunley took home second place with a 112 (78-34).
Portland junior Lisa Okazaki finished with a 122, junior Bridget Gleason had a 123 and junior Sandra Jefferies played as an individual and shot a 125.
The Pilots are scheduled to play one more event this fall before taking the winter off from tournaments. During the first week of November, Portland is set to compete at the Cal Poly Lamkin Grip Invitational at the Cypress Ridge Golf Club in Arroyo Grande, Calif. The two-day tourney will begin on Nov. 1.
