ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. --- Portland junior Lisa Okazaki fired a career-low, 36-hole score of 151 to finish 13th overall and help the Pilots place ninth at the Lamkin Grip/Cal Poly Invitational, which concluded on Monday at the Cypress Ridge Golf Club. Okazaki opened with a 78 on Sunday before carding a career-low round 72 (E) during Monday’s final round.
Okazaki’s 13th-place finish is the second top-20 placing of her career. During her freshman campaign, she tied for eighth overall to help the Pilots win the Elco Inc. Intercollegiate in March of 2008.
Ashlee Nagamine of Cal State Northridge tore up the course on Monday, coming in with a six-under par 66 to claim medalist honors. Her 142 was one stroke better than runner-up Maddy Fletcher of host school Cal Poly.
Nagamine helped the Matadors claim the team title as well. Northridge finished one stroke better than Northern Arizona with a total of 591. Behind Northern Arizona came Xavier (602), Sacramento State (603) and Cal Poly (611).
The Pilots finished with a 630 (320-310), which was just four stokes back of eighth place at the 16-team event.
Freshman Avery Collura, who tied for 32nd with a 158 (78-80), was Portland’s next top finisher after Okazaki. Sophomore McKennon O’Rourke and freshman Rachael Fischer finished with identical 79’s on Monday to place 36th and 54th, respectively. O’Rourke shot a 159 (80-79) overall, while Fischer had a 162 (83-79). Junior Bridget Gleason finished with a 173 (91-82) to cap the scoring for Portland.
This was the final scheduled event of the fall slate for the Pilots, who will next take the course in February at the Red Rocks Invitational.
