CORVALLIS, Ore. --- Portland sophomore McKennon O’Rourke tied for sixth place individually at the Giustina Memorial Classic for her first career top-10 finish for the Pilots. O’Rourke fired a 227 (76-77-74) during the two-day, three round tournament, which concluded on Tuesday at Trysting Tree Golf Club.
Her total was just one stroke shy of fifth place and only four short of second place. The 227 is also a career-low, three-round total for O’Rourke, who fired a career-low round of 74 on Tuesday.
Oregon’s Kendra Little easily won medalist honors to help the Ducks run away with the team title. Little’s 214 (73-69-72) was nine strokes better than runner-up Juanita Rico of Wyoming.
Oregon totaled an 896 to finish 26 strokes better than the rest of the field. Washington was second with a 921 and Wyoming was third with a 926. Portland placed ninth with a 956 (320-320-316).
UP junior Lisa Okazaki just missed a top-20 finish, tying for 24th overall with a 238 (78-80-80). Freshman Rachael Fischer shot a 244, which was good for a tie for 35th place. Portland junior Bridget Gleason shot a 248, while freshman Avery Collura came in with a 256.
There’s no rest for the Pilots, who return to the course next weekend for the NIU Invitational in Central Oregon. The two-day tourney is set to begin on Sunday, Oct. 4 at Brasada Ranch Country Club in Powell Butte, Ore.
