SAN BRUNO, Calif. – For the second consecutive season, the Portland doubles duo of seniors Filip Zivkovic and Evan Schleining was named to the 2010 All-West Coast Conference first team, announced the conference on Thursday. Zivkovic received second team honors in singles, marking his fourth honor in as many seasons.
Zivkovic and Schleining tallied a 14-4 mark at the No. 1 doubles spot and reached as high as No. 30 in the ITA national rankings this season.
Zivkovic played mainly at the No. 1 singles spot for the Pilots, notching a team-leading 11 wins. The senior, who hails from Nis, Serbia, is the sole Pilot to garner all-conference selections all four seasons.
"Filip and Evan had a tremendous year," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said. "I am really glad that the other coaches in the conference recognized our guys consistency over the course of the year. They were voted in over a couple of pretty solid Pepperdine teams. Filip has earned first team honors three years in a row. He is the first Pilot since I have been here (since 1997) to win it three times in a row. That is a pretty impressive accomplishment considering some of the really great players we have had here before. This solidifies Filip's career as right there with some of the best Pilots we have had on The Bluff.
"I am so proud of Evan. He came in four years ago without a ton of junior experience. To be considered one of the best doubles players in our conference for two straight years is amazing for where he came from. Though we would have liked to done more damage in the WCC tourney, this is definitely a nice end to the year."
Pepperdine took home all three postseason honors as senior Bassam Beidas was tabbed WCC Player of the Year, Sebastian Fanselow earned Freshman of the Year, and Coach Adam Steinberg was named Coach of the Year.
This is the second year in a row that the Waves have garnered all three postseason awards and won the WCC title. The Waves continued their dominance at this year's Championship, earning their 20th consecutive WCC title and automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
The 2010 All-WCC First Team was selected by the conference coaches, based on overall season performance. All-WCC Second Team members were chosen based on the same criteria, plus performance at the recent WCC Championships. Below is a list of this year's All-WCC team.
