University of Portland seniors Kendra Chandhoke and Sophie Schmidt, along with junior Danielle Foxhoven, have been named to the 2010 Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy Watch List, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced on Wednesday. Portland was one of five teams to have three players among the 45 female athletes named to list.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer. The recipients are selected by NCAA Division I coaches who are members of the NSCAA.
Joining Portland with three representatives on the watch list is Stanford, UCLA, Notre Dame and Boston College. The Pilots, ranked No. 5 in the NSCAA national pre-season poll, will face 11 of the student-athletes named to the preseason watch list during the 2010 regular season.
A total of 30 different schools and four countries are represented on the list, including players from the United States, Canada, Germany and Jamaica.
Voting for the MAC Hermann Trophy is conducted in late November, when a field of 15 semifinalists is reduced to three finalists. Those three will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, where a news conference will be held to announce the winner, followed by a banquet to honor the three finalists.
