This Week in Pilots Soccer
The No. 4 Portland Pilots (4-0-0) travel to Seattle this weekend to take part in the Husky/Nike Invitational. In addition to host Washington (2-1-0), competing teams will be the Wisconsin Badgers (0-2-0) and Syracuse Orange (1-1-2). Portland will face Wisconsin on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and then take on Syracuse on Sunday at 11 a.m. Both games will have live stats available at portlandpilots.com.
Last Week
Portland won two home games before large Merlo Field crowds beginning with a 2-0 win over SMU on Friday. A crowd of 4,102 turned out and watched freshman Micaela Capelle knock in the game-winner on an assist from Danielle Foxhoven in the 58th minute. Foxhoven doubled the score on an assist from Keelin Winters later in the second half. On Sunday, 3,058 fans watched a thrilling 1-0 victory for the Pilots against No. 21 Oklahoma State. Despite outshooting the Cowgirls 18-3, Portland didn’t tally the game-winner until the 90th minute. Seniors Sophie Schmidt and Keelin Winters combined on a free kick with Winters heading home the game-winner with 42 seconds remaining in regulation. Freshman goalkeeper Erin Dees made a couple of big saves and recorded both shutouts last weekend.

Winters Earns National Team of the Week Honors
Senior MF Keelin Winters earned National Team of the Week honors from both TopDrawerSoccer.com and CollegeSoccer360.com after scoring the game-winner against No. 21 Oklahoma State on Sunday and recording an assist against SMU on Friday. Winters broke a scoreless tie by heading home a goal against OSU with just 42 seconds remaining in regulation.
Tsao a Finalist for Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award
Senior D Jessica Tsao has been named one of 30 women’s soccer candidates for the 2010 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, presented to one individual per sport who excels both on and off the field. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – classroom, character, community and competition. Tsao looks to follow in the footsteps of former University of Portland teammate Stephanie Cox (nee Lopez), who was the inaugural winner of the award in 2007. Kelsey Davis was one of 10 finalists for the Pilots last season.
Pilots Announce Television and Radio Games
Portland will have two regular season games televised nationally in 2010. The Pilots will play at San Diego live on Fox Soccer Channel on Friday, Oct. 22 at 8 p.m. Two days later Portland will be at Santa Clara on Sunday, October 24 at 12 p.m. live on ESPNU. The Pilots also announced a radio deal with True Talk 800 AM (KPDQ) to air 10 total soccer games this season, including seven women's games.
