Conner Named Men’s Cross Country West Region Coach of the Year
USTFCCCA Release
NEW ORLEANS, La. --- Portland head coach Rob Conner has been named the Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year for the West Region, the USTFCCCA announced on Tuesday.
Conner, who was named the West Coast Conference Coach of the Year earlier this season, has coached a young Portland squad to a No. 9 ranking this season entering the NCAA National Championships this weekend.
"Without a great team of dedicated and hard-working athletes, this award would not be possible," Conner said. "Jesse Johnson and Chris Solinsky deserve credit for the work they have done to improve the program."
Portland picked up its 33rd WCC Championship in 34 years this year, edging No. 8 BYU by one point. Most recently, the Pilots finished second at the NCAA West Regionals to earn their eighth straight trip to the championships.
The Pilots look to improve on last year’s eighth place finish at the NCAA Championships this weekend in Louisville.
