Holy Guacamole! I’m not only saying that because I am eating chips and guac right now, but also because it has been far too long since our last encounter. My sincerest apologies. Bundles upon bundles of events have occurred since my last blog. Our very own Amanda Frisbie received WCC October Player of the Month. Our team took a visit to the Roloff Farms pumpkin patch. We played charades on “parents weekend” (Mrs. Dees acting skills shined some light as to why Dees is so weird, in a good way). I discovered Lorielle McCluskie can remain quiet for more than 30 minutes (a miraculous feat) if you simply hand her a coloring book. Hurricane Sandy caused havoc on the East Coast. Barack Obama was re-elected as president. But more important than charades and presidents, we are in the playoffs and play Washington State this Friday at Merlo! But before I get ahead of myself, I would like to fill you in on a crucial event that took place the week prior: The (drum roll please) 2012 Annual University of Portland Women’s Soccer House Tour.
Every year during official visit weekend, we host on a tour of every player’s living quarter. Each separate house/room/suite must come up with a theme and dress up based on that theme. Due to the competitive nature of our team, everyone gets really into it. This year was no exception. I’ve designated a few awards I’d like to hand out this year.
Best Dressed: Everyone looked darn good in their costume, but the cast of “The Voice” took the cake this year. The combination of Blake’s cowboy boots, CeeLo’s belly pouch, Adam’s tats, and Christina’s really big...shoes, was just tremendously displayed. It was as if I was truly in the presence of celebrities. As a matter of fact, I am still convinced that the real CeeLo Green was in attendance. I mean who else has a cheesy smile, bald head, fat belly, is dressed in a full white jump suit, and holds an exotic elephant in hand? If that’s not CeeLo Green than I don’t know who is. But their brilliance didn’t stop there. When we entered their house, the cast was all sitting in swivel chairs, and some of us sang in an attempt to win over their hearts. I happened to be a contestant, but they were way stricter for me than everyone else. It wasn’t fair. Only three of them, turned their seats for me. To their defense, I was a little sick that day. I’ll win them all over next time.
Runners Up: Toad, Luigi, Mario, and Daisy from Mario Kart and Russell and Kevin from the movie UP.
Creepiest Costume: We were all sitting around the dorms about to begin the tour, when a peculiar man with a wry smile and comb-over comes walking towards us. Dees looks over to Dani Foxhoven and in a puzzled looks asks “Who is that?” That my friends, was Gergs, our trainer. Dees honestly, could not tell who he was, and I don’t blame her. Gergs was dressed head to toe, in an old fashioned suit, tie, brown wig, and to top it off, he had a microphone in hand. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel a little uncomfortable with his transformation. As a result, I give Gergs the award for creepiest costume.
Greatest Entertainment: However, Gergs redeemed himself as he is also recipient of the prestigious Greatest Entertainment Award. Upon entering his house, we were all welcomed with a glass of sparkling cider along with other refreshments. Then, the show began. Gergs stood at his podium and hosted his very own, “Gergsy Gergs Show.” The contestants of his show were a member of each team van. Every road trip, we are always in the same van. We all have very strong ties to our van, and it’s an unspoken rule that one does not break from their van pack, unless they want to get shunned for life. There is constant debate over which van is the best, but deep down everyone knows that Lisa’s van (also including Kaila, Taylor, Bekah, and me) is the best. Anyway, once the teams were assembled, Gergs would play a song and whichever contestant performed a dance move first, could then guess the artist of the song. Kaila represented our van and she absolutely obliterated competition. Thereby further confirming the dominance and superiority of our van. From this experience I also learned that if athletic training doesn’t work out, Gergs would be a darn good Game Show host.
The house tour was all fun and games, but the true game is tomorrow. Playoffs are what we’ve been playing for all year and we are all excited to start them off at our very own Merlo Field. You all have been so supportive this year and I hope you can make it out again tomorrow at 7pm to cheer us on to victory!
Life,
Kendall
