Jamie Fisher Signs Men's Tennis NLI
PORTLAND, Ore. --- University of Portland men's tennis head coach Aaron Gross announced that Jamie Fisher (Corvallis, Ore./Crescent Valley HS) has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Pilots next fall. Fisher is the second recruit to sign with the Pilots this week, joining Steffen Dierauf (Munich, Germany) as part of the incoming class.
"I think we got an incredible find in Jamie Fisher," Gross said. "He has been one of the top players in the Pacific Northwest section for the last few years, but has really flown under the radar because Corvallis isn't a hotbed for tennis. He hasn't had a lot of national exposure, but people in this section know him well."
Fisher is the reigning Oregon State 5A Singles Champion and was the state runner-up as a sophomore in 2011. He helped Crescent Valley to a share of the team state championship last year as well.
Fisher has steadily seen his regional and national recruiting rankings rise over the last few seasons and is currently the No. 3 ranked player in the state and No. 9 in the PNW section according to TennisRecruiting.net. He was the 2013 PNW 18's Section Doubles Champion and a member of the PNW National Team. Fisher also represented the PNW section in the age 12, 14, and 16 zonal teams, making a run to the section finals in 2012.
"He has a great feel for the game," Gross noted. "Because he has grown up in a small tennis community, he doesn't have as much experience as other top ranked national kids in his age group, but Jamie has so much upside to his game. He is a lefty, who is comfortable in all areas of the court with great hands at the net. I think he is going to be an excellent doubles player. Plus, he is a quality kid from a great family. We have had amazing luck with kids from Corvallis, including recent alum Colby Jager, so we are excited for Jamie's potential."
The current Pilots concluded their fall schedule and are now preparing for the spring dual season which kicks off January 16 at Washington. Returning All-West Coast Conference senior Ratan Gill anchors an experienced lineup that returns five of its top six players from last season.
