PORTLAND, Ore. --- The University of Portland women's basketball team will conduct a free mother-daughter clinic on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Chiles Center following the Pilots' game against Pepperdine. Tip-off for the Pilots and Waves is set for 2 p.m. and the clinic is scheduled to run from approximately 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. Girls from the 8th grade and under are invited to participate along with their mother or guardian.
Â
Registration for the event will begin before the game at 1:00 p.m.
Â
The UP women's hoops team hosts the mother-daughter clinic every year, offering kids and their mothers a chance to play like the Pilots and participate in drills with the team and the Portland coaching staff.
Â
"We've been doing this for about 20 years and the mother and daughters have always had a great time," head coach Jim Sollars said. "We offer a little bit of everything and we work on fundamentals that everyone enjoys."
Â
Sollars says the clinic is a good opportunity for parents to learn techniques that will allow them to work with their daughters on improving their basketball skills at home. Athletic attire is recommended for both mothers and daughters.
Â
Saturday is also UP's annual Play 4Kay game, which is a national campaign to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. All fans wearing pink to the game will get in for free, and the first 500 fans will receive a free pink Voodoo Doughnut.
